Many of us are feeling stressed out and our nervous systems are taxed as it feels the sky is falling daily, and we feel out of our control, dysregulated. One way we can help ourselves through this, is to calm our nervous system and reset with yoga nidra. This is a way I can support you with a short Nidra journey.
Yoga Nidra has many long term benefits and these work best when practiced at least 5 sessions with a sankalpa or intention that the practitioner is integrating. A short present tense intention.
The practice of yoga Nidra (pronounced like "in", not need) brings brain waves to a state that is more conducive and receptive to new ideas. By bringing your brain to this state often, you become open to things you may have previously closed off. Yoga Nidra promotes a shift from the active beta waves of waking to the relaxed states of alpha and theta waves, and can even reach delta waves, which are associated with deep sleep. This unique combination of relaxed brain states with conscious awareness allows for deep physical and mental rest, enhanced creativity, and emotional healing.
The ultimate objective of yoga nidra goes far beyond merely combating stressful influences and rectifying the imbalances created by poor stress management. The glimpse of samadhi obtained by the practitioner of yoga nidra, for which it was first formulated by the rishis, is sufficient to transform him/her from a victim of stress into a victor in life. To becomes 'stress-resistant' amidst the pressures, insecurities and difficulties of modern life, but also learns to thrive on the same difficulties which lead others to the brink of mental anguish, emotional self-destruction and physical breakdown.
This is the great secret of yoga nidra. It is not only a way of coping with stress; it also provides a means of transforming and positively utilizing tension as a stepping stone to greater awareness, efficiency and achievement in life.
Please come prepared to stretch briefly and then nestle in to a yoga nidra nest..
Have a space prepared to lay down and get comfortable. It can be on your yoga mat or in bed.
What to bring;
Comfortable and warm clothing
A warm blanket to cover you
Pillows for comfort
Something to cover your eyes
Sankalpa/intention. A present time term, a concise desire for yourself.
A wish in a short sentence as if it is already so.
Optional; A journal or pen and paper. After Nidra is a great time to write down any reflections on your own time
